There are two ways of getting a pet in The Sims 3: Pets - using the Sims Body Shop (if you choose this way, you'll be able to customize the pet exactly to your liking) or by buying a pet-related object (an object that you'll use for the pet), and placing the pet in your household.
The number of cities that have followed New York’s lead by banning the controversial chemical bisphenol A, a plasticizer that can disrupt the endocrine system in young children, has exploded in recent years. Philadelphia banned it last year, as did Austin, Texas, and King County, Washington. Cook County, Illinois, in February. Now, Washington, D.C., could be next.
On March 11, the city’s public schools became the first government entity in the nation to ban BPA from the inside, when the D.C. Department of Education announced it would ban the chemical from being used to line the containers for children’s food and drink.
“As we work to ensure that children’s health and safety are protected, it is our responsibility to evaluate all possible measures to do so,” D.C. Chancellor Kaya Henderson said at the time. “To that end, the District must continue to work toward promoting the health and safety of children and evaluate what strategies are necessary to do so.”
The controversial chemical, used to make food cans, dental sealants, water bottles, and other products, has been linked to a variety of illnesses, including breast and prostate cancer, thyroid disease, and obesity. For years, scientists have warned that BPA—though not quite as toxic as some other industrial chemicals—has more than enough potential to hurt children.
But until now, there has not been a single public entity in the country that has taken the issue on as a top priority. BPA is a federal chemical, and there is no federal law regulating the use of the chemical.
The District’s ban comes as more than 40 states are considering enacting similar legislation. Last year, California became the first state to outlaw BPA from baby bottles and children’s sippy cups, which are lined with the chemical. It also passed an eight-month moratorium on the use of the chemical in food packaging.
